New perspectives on shaping the future of pregnancy health

Predicting and preventing preeclampsia: Learnings and insights from ACOG 2023

ACOG 2023 in Charm City is a wrap! We had a wonderful time connecting with hundreds of attendees from all around the world in Baltimore, hearing from leading experts on themes including the maternal mortality crisis and preeclampsia, and learning so much.

Patient Perspective

We were amazed at how many of you took the time to stop by our booth and say hello - we spoke with over 700 OB/GYNs, MFMs, APPs, and medical students throughout the weekend, and the insights shared were invaluable. Spending time with practicing clinicians at conferences is an incredible opportunity to hear directly from them about what they need and want for their patients and practices.

What we heard from OB practitioners:

  • They would love to have a tool to predict preeclampsia months in advance.
  • They would value prediction because it would enable personalized care to optimize prevention of disease (or early recognition when it does occur.)
  • They were enthusiastic to learn that the first-ever comprehensive Care Plan to prevent preeclampsia has been published in AJOG, including reminder checklists for both patients and clinicians.

Mirvie’s care plan summary was so popular that we ran out of it - our apologies! If you missed it and would like to have one, you can download a copy here.

In addition to hearing clinicians’ feedback about Mirvie’s future blood test to predict preeclampsia, we heard from many who had personal experience with preeclampsia themselves. We heard several stories about unexpected complications and preeclampsia leading to preterm birth, and how this has impacted them both personally and professionally. Hearing these stories motivates us all the more to keep working to fill this unmet need for pregnant individuals and their infants.

Thank you to all who came by the booth and took the time to speak with us. Hearing from practicing OB/GYNs and having the opportunity to meet in person always reenergizes us in the work we do each day at Mirvie to bring about a new vision for pregnancy health. We’re looking forward to ACOG 2024 in San Francisco already!
